The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, stirred speculation of political realignment on Saturday when he visited Chief Victor Giadom, the National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The visit took place in Bera, Giadom’s hometown in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, expressed satisfaction at mending fences with Giadom, a one-time Commissioner for Works under former Governor Rotimi Amaechi. In a video statement, Wike confidently asserted that the person in charge would soon be revealed.

The former governor has been at odds with the current Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, leading to lawmakers loyal to the minister serving an impeachment notice. However, with the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, the lawmakers, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC, withdrew the impeachment notice.

During the visit, Wike emphasized that the current time was not for politics, stating, “Forget about these hungry noisemakers on the road. When the time comes, we will know who is in charge and who is not in charge. There is a time for everything.” He urged people not to misinterpret his visit, noting it was a private one to see his friend Giadom.

The FCT Minister highlighted that Giadom had gathered his people to demonstrate his continued political relevance, emphasizing that politics should focus on positively impacting the people. Wike stated that friendship remains despite political differences, and that he would continue supporting the government led by Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

Giadom described Wike’s visit as a homecoming of a brother, a friend, and a leader, pledging support for any team Wike would lead in Rivers State. Prominent politicians present at the event included Senator Barry Mpigi, Senator Allwell Onyeso, and Ambassador Maurine Tamuno, among others.
