Manchester, United Kingdom, February 5, 2024 In a spirited performance inspired by the revitalized Hojlund, Manchester United clinched their third consecutive victory across all competitions, propelling them above West Ham into the sixth position.

The turning point occurred at Old Trafford, where Hojlund, who has come into his own after a slow start to his debut season with United, celebrated his birthday in style. The Denmark striker unleashed a fierce drive in the 23rd minute, cleverly creating space for himself after receiving Casemiro’s pass, leaving Alphonse Areola with no chance as the ball found the net from just inside the area.

Having struggled to find the back of the net in the league until December 26, Hojlund has now scored five goals in his last six games in various competitions.

The 49th minute saw Alejandro Garnacho left unmarked in the area, firing a shot that deflected off West Ham’s Nayef Aguerd, extending United’s lead.

Prior to kick-off, both United manager Erik ten Hag and West Ham boss David Moyes paid tribute to the victims of the 1958 Munich air crash by laying wreaths on the pitch. While the current United team cannot be compared to the tragic ‘Busby Babes,’ they honoured their memory with an enterprising display reminiscent of their predecessors.

Garnacho, United’s brightest young star, sealed the victory with a composed finish in the 84th minute, capping off a memorable performance.

In other league action, Nottingham Forest secured a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth. Dutch forward Justin Kluivert gave Bournemouth an early lead in the fifth minute, but Callum Hudson-Odoi equalised for Forest just before halftime with a curler from the edge of the area. Bournemouth’s Philip Billing was later sent off in the 84th minute for a foul on Hudson-Odoi. As a result, Nottingham Forest find themselves two points above the relegation zone after the draw.
