The police on Thursday arraigned a 26-year-old man, Mustapha Musa, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged N170,000 fraud.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a count charge of fraud.
The prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in January at about 12:00 p.m at Oke Ureje in Ado-Ekiti.
Adeniyi alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N170,000 from the complainant, Mr Ojo Oguntoye, on pretext of moulding two rings for, but failed to deliver.
He said that the offence contravened Section 329 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Adedayo Awe, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until May 12 for further hearing. (NAN)
