A  Makurdi High Court presided over by justice Adam Onum has dismissed an application by the immediate past governor of Benue state, Dr Gabriel Suswam, praying it to stop the probe of his administration via two commissions of enquiry set up by Governor Samuel Ortom.

In his judgment, Justice Onum held that as governor of a state, Governor Ortom had the constitutional powers to probe his predecessor and since he cannot do that privately, he could choose to set up a panel by whatever name to do same.

He dismissed the submission by counsel to former Governor Suswam  that the law establishing or allowing the setting up of such commissions of enquiry had expired saying, it was still very much active.

Former Governor of Benue state, Gabriel Suswam had approached a Makurdi High Court seeking it to stop two probe panels set up by governor Samuel Ortom to  probe his administration on the grounds that, setting up of such panels was illegal and  unconstitutional.

Governor Samuel Ortom while fielding questions from journalist at the Benue People’s House has hailed the judgment saying, with the logjam now over, the commissions will resume work immediately.
