Trader in court for allegedly obtaining N5.4m under false pretenses

A 32- year-old man, Lijoka Adetunji, who allegedly obtained N5.4million under  false pretenses that he would  supply  motor exhaust pipe catalyst, was on Tuesday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The defendant, a trader whose address was not stated, is facing trial  for obtaining by false pretenses, cheating and causing a breach of peace.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the offences were committed in  April at 3-5 NMET St., Ikeja.

Odugbo alleged that the defendant obtained N5.4 million from one  Mr. Emeka Okugbo under false pretenses  that he would  supply him 39.5 kilogrammes of motor exhaust pipe catalyst.

The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant failed to do so neither did he  refund the money he collected from the complainant.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 168, 314 and 323 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted the defendant bail  in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Owolabi adjourned the case until Dec. 2 for mention.(NAN)
