A.C.E partners Irede Foundation to empower child amputees with prosthetic limbs

Action for Change and Empowerment (A.C.E), a community-based NGO has partnered The Irede Foundation (TIF) to empower child amputees with prosthetic limbs.

Speaking at the 2024 Handover Ceremony at Ogudu on Friday, Mr. Yemi Edun, Director, A.C.E., told the child amputees and their caregivers that disability was a thing of the mind.

“So, it depends on the champions who have received the prosthesis to wake up and be driven, because A.C.E and any other granting organisation can only try to support as much as they can but really, the fight is not theirs.

“The economy is tough, and when the economy is tough, charity is one of the first things to suffer,” Edun said.

According to him, the champions and their parents or caregivers have the duty to brace up and make the best out of life in view of present reality.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2024 handover ceremony demonstrates power of collaboration where A.C.E enabled three children with limb loss to get back to school with renewed hope and confidence.

The trio were provided with prosthetic limb.

Also speaking, the Executive Director of TIF, Ms Crystal Chigbu, shared some thoughts about being a caregiver herself by telling her personal story as a mother of an amputee.

“Children who become our champions have the opportunity to be back in school just like their friends, like they were never out of school.

“More importantly, the work goes beyond giving the children limbs. It also liberates the parents and caregivers to be able to go to work with the confidence that their child/children can live independent lives.

“Thanks to the generous support of partners like A.C.E.” Chigbu said.

NAN reports that so far TIF had distributed over 500 prosthetic limbs across 35 states in Nigeria.

This achievement was made possible by collaborations with partners like A.C.E, who are dedicated to breaking the physical and societal barriers faced by child amputees.

Both organisations called for more partners and stakeholders to join their mission, emphasising the importance of continued support.

A.C.E has worked with TIF to provide limbs to six child amputees, between 2023 and 2024. (NAN
