Former Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi is dead.
Ajimobi died on Thursday at the First Cardiology Cosultants in Lagos after spending weeks in intensive care for coronavirus complications, according to an associate of the late governor, Akin Alabi.
Ajimobi was 70 years old.
Ajimobi had been rumoured dead twice, but family called the news a hoax and assured everyone he was getting better.
He was first hospitalised in early June after contracting the deadly virus that has now affected millions and claimed nearly 500,000 lives globally.
Ajimobi, a senator from 2003 to 2007, was elected governor in 2011 and re-elected in 2015, becoming the first governor of his state to serve two terms.a
