Activities have resumed fully at the State Specialist Hospital, Okitipupa, Ondo State, following the suspension of strike by medical doctors in the state on Sept. 1.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state chapters of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and National Association of Resident Doctors (
) had on Sept. 1 suspended their 11- week strike after the intervention of the State House of Assembly.
NAN had earlier reported that skeletal services were provided at the hospital during the strike caused by allegations that the state government owed the doctors not less than seven months salary arrears.
A check by NAN at the hospital on Wednesday revealed that medical doctors had resumed attending to patients at the emergency, maternity, dental and children wards.
Similarly, officials were observed at the theatre attending to patients while other members of staff were seen at their various duty posts.
Dr Akintunde Ogunfeyimi, the Chief Medical Director, told NAN that doctors and other health care personnel were all at their duty posts to perform their responsibilities.
He said that the medical doctors and other workers had resumed immediately the NMA and NARD suspended the strike.
“As you can see for yourselves, medical activities have resumed here since our unions suspended their industrial actions in the state.
“We had a meeting with all the doctors and other staffers when we resumed to seek their cooperation, so medical activities are ongoing in all the wards right now,” Ogunfeyimi said
NAN further reliably gathered that the leadership of NMA and NARD were in talks with the state government on how it intends to defray the backlog of salaries. (NAN)
