Adamawa Govt develops child social investment policy

The Adamawa Government says it has initiated process to develop fiscal space for child social investment policy, to improve the social and economic wellbeing of children in the state.

Alhaji Usman Mafiyo, Permanent Secretary, Adamawa State Planning Commission, stated this at the inauguration of a three-day capacity building workshop, on Thursday in Yola.

Mafiyo said that the exercise was designed to develop policy framework towards improving capacity on social inclusion of women and children in government expenditure.

“The workshop is based on development of a fact sheet on the monetary and multi- dimensional child poverty analysis for policy makers and implementers in the state.

“It is also to initiate means of sensitisation to raise public awareness and develop avenues to strengthen, resolve institutional capacities of government agencies and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) for effective and efficient social sector public spending across different settings,” he said.

According to him, the new policy framework will be develop in collaboration between the state government and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

He urged the participants to pay attention and understand the basic information that would be given to them during the exercise.

In his remarks, Mr. Yusuf Auta, UNICEF Consultant, said that the UN agency has been providing technical support to state governments on statistics and data collection of women and children policy implementation and development.

Auta said that the core objectives of the workshop was to develop child policy to address issues affecting children.

“At the end of the workshop, we are expecting the participants to develop and come up with standard policy that will address and solve issues regarding out-of-school children, poverty and malnutrition,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the participants were drawn from government’s agencies and representatives of development organisations. (NAN)
