Lagos. March 4, 2026 (NAN) Dr David Ikudayisi, a US board certified internist practicing in Nigeria, has said that adult stem cell therapy was safe and the future of medicine in the country.

Ikudayisi said this in Lagos on Wednesday at a symposium.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the symposium was organized by the College of Medicine, University of Lagos in collaboration with Glory Wellness and Regenerative Centre.

NAN also reports that the title of the symposium was “Basic Insights into Regenerative Medicine, Adult Stem Cell Therapy and Its Application”.

Ikudayisi explained that adult stem cell therapy entailed using cells in the body to repair, restore, rejuvenate and regenerate anything that was damaged in the body so that it could restore them back to normal functioning state.

According to him, a stem cell is any cell that can multiply and also be able to differentiate into different tissues and organs.

“The one that is currently clinically safe and available all over the world is the adult stem cell therapy. This one is different from all those embryonic stem cells therapy that have unethical issues or can cause problems.

“Adult stem cell therapy is safe because it has a limited amount of multiplication it can do and when you transplant them, they travel all over the body.”

The Internist said that the cost ranged from N100,000 to millions depending on the type of adult stem cell, adding that there was however a supplement called stem regen, which was NAFDAC registered and  would be available to the public soon.

Earlier, Prof Ademola Oremosu, Provost, CMUL, said that the expert had shed light on the use of stem cells in treatment of some conditions that people have.

“Regenerative cells are cells that can differentiate into multiple cells; this is what we have been made to understand.

“The symposium is in collaboration with CMUL and the advantage is that when the school brings people that are experts, students no longer just see the theory.

“They can see the effects, he has a clinic where these things are being done and also products are being developed in terms of pills that patients can take which can also help in regenerating the body and slowing down the aging process.

“Students are now being exposed to these expertise and no longer see them as things that they read in textbooks, but things they can now relate with” he said.

The provost hinted that the school hoped to bring more experts from diaspora especially Nigerians, adding that this was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s vision. (NAN)
