In a shocking turn of events, a prominent figure in Akure’s social scene and owner of Emirate filling stations, Mr. Sesan Adelabu, known colloquially as “Emirate,” reportedly perpetrated a horrific crime before taking his own life. Adelabu is said to have fatally attacked his wife before consuming a poisonous substance.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday in the Alagbaka area of Akure, the capital city of Ondo State, Nigeria. Both Mr. Adelabu’s and his wife’s bodies have been transported to the mortuary.
According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Sesan Adelabu was a well-known personality in the community and a successful businessman in the petrol station industry.
The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation into the matter had been launched by the authorities. The Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladapo, has directed the homicide section to take charge of the case.
SP Odunlami-Omisanya disclosed that the police received a distress call on February 9 concerning a possible murder-suicide involving Sesan Adelabu and his wife, Bolu Adelabu. Upon arrival at the scene in the Alagbaka area, law enforcement officers discovered Mr. Adelabu deceased in the toilet, while his wife’s body bore multiple machete wounds, with an empty container of the insect-killing substance “sniper” found nearby.
The PPRO emphasised that investigations are underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. The area has been cordoned off by authorities to facilitate their inquiry.
This disturbing event has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving many stunned and saddened by the loss of two lives under such tragic circumstances.
