Agege Molebi United Forum (AMUF) on Tuesday donated school bags and exercise books to pupils, earning commendations from government officials, teachers and parents.

The stakeholders said the gesture would support learning and improve educational outcomes among beneficiaries.

AMUF is a non-governmental organization focused on community development through educational support, relief programmes and advocacy initiatives aimed at improving lives in Agege and beyond.

The donation, held at the Agege Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) building, marked the third edition of the programme themed “Meeting the Needs of the Future Leaders.”

Dr Afolabi Abiodun, pioneer president of AMUF and Special Adviser to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said the forum comprised Agege indigenes committed to community development.

According to him, AMUF was founded in 2014 by ACP Yinka Egbeyemi, a respected community leader dedicated to the growth and progress of Agege.

He explained that the initiative was designed to support indigenous pupils academically through the provision of essential learning materials.

“Education remains the pathway to brighter futures,” he said.

Abiodun said that beyond education, AMUF had implemented programmes including anti-drug campaigns, prison outreach, advocacy against electoral violence, food distribution and relief support.

He added that the interventions targeted vulnerable residents in the community.

As part of the event, cash donations were also presented to some pupils and the Agege branch of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT).

The Chairman of Agege Local Government, Mr Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, commended AMUF for complementing government efforts in the education sector.

Obasa noted that government alone could not meet all societal needs and therefore required support from well-meaning organizations and individuals.

He said the donation would boost pupils’ morale, encourage academic excellence and strengthen efforts aimed at improving educational standards in the area.

The chairman highlighted his administration’s achievements, including the renovation of 17 schools and the provision of more than 2,000 pieces of classroom furniture.

He added that 92 marker boards had been installed, additional teachers recruited and schools equipped with computers to enhance learning environments.

Representing the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), Dr Hakeem Lamidi praised AMUF for supporting the state government’s efforts in the education sector.

A Permanent Board Member of LASUBEB, Dr Sherifat Abiodun Adedoyin, described the intervention as timely relief for parents facing prevailing economic challenges.

The Education Secretary of Agege, Hajia Jannat Bashorun-Olokodana, expressed appreciation to AMUF and described the support as impactful and beneficial to pupils. (NAN).
