Anambra LG Chairmanship aspirant promises grassroots sports development

Awka, Jan. 14, 2025 (NAN) A Chairmanship aspirant for Awka North LGA, Chief Anthony Nchekwube, has promised to empower youths through grassroots sports development.

 

Nchekwube, who is the Convener of APGA Apostles Forum, made the promise during an interactive session with newsmen in Awka on Wednesday.

 

He spoke on his manifesto, entitled “Building a Functional, Secure, Productive and Inclusive Awka North LGA”.

 

He said that he would aggressively implement a youth and sports development programme, if elected.

 

He also said that he would create a strong youth engagement and empowerment programme as well as introduce community liaison officers in all the 14 wards.

 

“Under my leadership, we shall have an annual LG Football League and support community sports development initiatives all year round.

 

“We will also work with local clubs and academies to scout for young talents and also organise seasonal talent shows and social events for youths,” he said.

 

Nchekwube also promised women inclusive leadership, adding that 30 per cent of political appointments and council committee seats would be reserved for women.

 

He promised to strengthen women cooperatives, with particular focus on widows and women farmers.

 

He said that he would introduce leadership and civic training for women in all the wards in the area.

 

Nchekwube, who is aspiring on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, appealed to the people and party members to support his aspiration and also partner with him for a greater Awka North.
