Anambra PDP factions hold parallel congresses

Parallel ward congresses were held by two factions of the Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra State on Monday.

One of the two sets of congresses was conducted by the faction loyal to Mr. Kenneth Emeakayi, which has been endorsed by the National Working Committee of the party.

The second set was conducted by the Ejike Oguebego-led faction of the PDP, which is recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Results of the primaries, which were held to elect state delegates, were however still being expected on Monday by the respective factions.

The delegates are to elect the party’s governorship candidate in the August 24 governorship primaries scheduled to be held in Awka.

However, the Emeakayi faction was said to have been coasting home with the popular membership of the party until Monday afternoon, when INEC wrote a circular recognising the Oguebego faction.

The circular, written by the Public Relations Officer of INEC, Mr. Frank Egbo, read, “The INEC recognises Mr. Ejike Oguebego as the Chairman of the PDP in Anambra State.”
