Do I like Netflix? That is a question I really cannot answer. Most times I will just be flipping and flipping, and I won’t be able to find anything of interest
In between a motley of gay and lesbian offerings with low-budget Asian stuff and a slew of very terrible Nollywood shows, Netflix continues to lose my interest
But once in a while, I stumble on some quite interesting stuff. Like the Kevin Hart latest thriller and the Dave Chappelle special that caused a little storm. I also loved Bridgeton and rediscovering Anne
But the one that has our own Annie Idibia is the worst thing I have seen on TV. Annie comes from Eket near my village in Ibeno, and I must say she has not been a good ambassador.
Mixing a confusing personality with a not too strong hold of the English language and a gory attempt at looking, feeling and sounding ‘tooche’ you get a caricature as a thing of interest
She struggles to rise up to whatever she thinks is the minimum expectation of the show. Speaking gibberish and revealing all sort of very personal information to an African audience that couldn’t careless.
Let me confess, the level of irritation I sensed didn’t allow me to go beyond the point where she had the call with her beautiful daughter and where she was discussing her medical challenges.
Even that came out as forced, and the young girl didn’t achieve anything by being that exposed.
The next thing i saw was a bad fight between Annie and one ‘onyibo’, and it was a bullish runt.
The white lady took her to cleaners as Annie struggling with a limited hold of the language and a serious inferiority complex allowed herself to be pulverized leading to her running away and the woman quipping- is that a marriage?
Our icon being demystified by low class ‘idiots ‘ just for rating or what?
Annie could have done best by turning the fight to ibibio. After all, if she were Chinese, she would have fought with the Chinese language. This was not Pero – I’m sorry to bring this in – this was oyinbo, so the tongue had to be tied.
I have not watched that rubbish since the first one, and I am deliberately trying not to mention that one they call swanky, so I don’t finally puke, and I must say I am not missing anything
That show is a dud and should be pulled.
