Ibadan, March 5, 2026 (NAN) A 38-year-old artisan, Samson Olapade, on Thursday, appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, over alleged  fraud.

The defendant is standing trial on a three-count charge, bordering on defrauding a lawyer, one Bukola Oyedepo, to the tune of four million naira.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Tunji Olaniyi, alleged that the defendant committed the offence between October and December 2024, at the Kumapayi area of  Olodo in  Ibadan

He alleged that the defendant obtained the money from Oyedepo under the pretense of helping her to purchase inverter batteries and freezers, knowing same to be false.

Olaniyi alleged that the defendant never purchased the batteries but converted the sum of  N3.38 million to his own use, without consent of the complainant.

The offence contravenes the provisions of sections 383, 388 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.

The Magistrate, Mr. Moshood Mudashiru, granted the defendant bail in the sum of two million naira with two sureties in like sum.

The court held that one of the sureties must be a Director with instrument of registration deposited in court until final determination of the matter.

He said the second sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.

The court adjourned the case until May 4, for hearing. (NAN)
