Yenagoa, Feb. 26, 2026 (NAN) The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Bayelsa Chapter, has congratulated Mr Peter Akpe on his swearing-in as Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.
The congratulatory message is contained in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by Mrs Timinepre Ohia, Chairman of SWAN, Bayelsa Chapter.
The association described Akpe’s emergence as a well-deserved elevation, citing his longstanding dedication to public service, administrative competence and commitment to the development of Bayelsa State.
According to the statement, Akpe’s inauguration marks a significant milestone in the political and socio-economic advancement of the state.
SWAN said his wealth of experience, visionary leadership style and strong grassroots connection inspired confidence in a more prosperous and inclusive Bayelsa.
The association acknowledged the vital role of government in promoting sports as a tool for youth empowerment, social cohesion and economic development.
It expressed optimism that the new Deputy Governor would support policies and initiatives aimed at strengthening sports development across the state.
SWAN also commended Gov. Douye Diri for reposing confidence in Akpe and pledged continued partnership in promoting the state’s sporting achievements nationally and internationally.
The association prayed for wisdom, strength and divine guidance for Akpe as he assumed the responsibilities of his new office.
