The Nigeria Police Force says it has successfully thwarted an alleged assassination plot on the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, leading to the arrest of two suspects, one of whom is the Chairman of a Local Government Area in Benue State.
The apprehended suspects, including the local government chairman, are currently under police custody following swift action by the Force Intelligence Department-Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT). Preliminary investigations suggest that the Local Government Chairman contracted a militia with the sinister aim of eliminating the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Aondona Hycenth Dajoh.
The diligent efforts of police operatives were triggered by credible intelligence received regarding the planned assassination. Both suspects are actively cooperating with investigators in the ongoing inquiry.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, affirmed in a statement that the police remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and public officials.
