
The Taraba government has requested the Federal Government to ensure speedy restoration of electricity back in the state.
Miss Naomi Agbu, Commissioner for Energy and Economic Development made the request on Thursday while briefing newsmen in Jalingo.
Agbu noted that the state was relegated in the partial restoration of electricity back to Gombe and Adamawa states which were affected at the same time with Taraba.
She also identified collapse of economic activities within the state stressing that all other economic activities depended on electricity.
The commissioner called on the Representatives of the region at the National Assembly to probe the continuous delay in the restoration of power in the state.
“I am deeply saddened by the disruption in electricity supply caused by the vandalism of four transmission line towers along Jos-Gombe 330kv line on April 22.
“These senseless acts of sabotage has not only geopardised the reliability of electrical infrastructure in the North East region but has also resulted in widespread inconvenience and hardship for all our communities,” she said.
Agbu commended the residents of Taraba for their patience and cooperation during the hardship occasioned due to power collapse.
She gave assurance that the state government had reached out to various stakeholders in the power industry as the restoration of the electricity had commence in earnest.
She said that Gov. Agbu Kefas of Taraba was worried with the situation and would ensure that the state developed it’s power to forstall future blackout.
NAN recalls that the transmission line towers along Jos-Gombe had been vandalized on April 22 throwing three states of Adamawa, Gombe and Taraba in a total blackout. (NAN)
