Boko Haram attacks UNIMAID and Giwa Barracks in Borno

Maiduguri, Borno State capital has come under siege from members of the islamist sect known as Boko Haram in an early morning assault. According to eye witnesses, the sect entered the city through Bama Road attacking the Giwa barracks with gun fire, rockets and explosives as another group proceeded to attack the University of Maiduguri through 202 Estate Road.

There are reports of heavy gun fire and explosion around the Giwa barracks as the military battles the dreaded sect. The military is yet to issue a statement or confirm this incident as casualties are likely to be heavy on both sides.

Boko Haram recently had adopted a strategy of attacking schools, sliting throats of women and children, village raids and spring attacks on military installations prompting Governors in the region to question the military’s morale and strstegy to insurgency.
