Borno Governor Announces N1 Billion Relief Package for Maiduguri Market Fire Victims

Babagana Zulum, the Governor of Borno, has announced a N1 billion relief package for victims of the Maiduguri Monday market fire incident, according to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). The incident, which occurred on Sunday morning, destroyed most of the market.

In a broadcast after visiting the market, Zulum said the support was to provide urgent assistance to victims pending assessment of the damage caused by the incident. He expressed his sadness over the fire disaster, which he described as unfortunate but decreed by Allah.

Zulum added that he would be setting up a committee that would include representatives of the victims, to speedily assess the damages and compile a comprehensive list of those affected and their losses. He also promised to seek support from President Muhammadu Buhari and other humanitarian establishments.

“I really feel the pains of everyone affected by this incident. I commiserate with all of you,” Zulum said.

The Governor also pledged to take firm measures to prevent a re-occurrence of the fire disaster.
