The Police on Thursday arraigned a 39-year-old man, Kingsley Chukwuebuka, before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged theft of building materials worth N955,000
The defendant, whose house address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp Leo Chidi, told the court that the defendant and two others at large, had on March 1, at about 11 am, at Ungwan Sarki Kaduna, committed the alleged offence.
Chidi alleged that the defendant and his accomplices stole 15 bags of white cement, 10 bags of cement, 70kg of filler, and a Tiger generator, all valued at N955,000, the property of the complainant, Bamidele Isaac.
The prosecutor said the offences committed contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State 2017.
The defense counsel, Mrs. M. A. Daniel, urged the court to grant her client bail in the interest of a fair hearing.
She argued that the defendant would not jump bail, with the assurance that credible surety would be provided.
The Magistrate, Mr. Ibrahim Emmanuel, acquiesced to the defense counsel’s plea and granted her client bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety.
Emmanuel, who held that the surety must be gainfully employed as part of the bail conditions, adjourned the case until April 22 for hearing. (NAN)
