Abuja, Jan. 16, 2026 (NAN) A 45-year-old businessman, Danjuma Shefu, was on Friday docked in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Life Camp, Abuja, for allegedly receiving stolen phones and a power bank valued at N250,000.
The police charged Shefu, who lives behind the Catholic Church, Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja, with receiving stolen property.
The prosecution counsel, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the defendant was arrested on Jan. 8 by Life Camp Police officers for allegedly receiving stolen property from Augustine Chukwu, of no fixed address.
Nwachukwu alleged that the defendant, knowing that Chukwu was a habitual criminal, dishonestly received an iPhone 7 valued at N170,000, a Huawei phone valued at N30,000, a power bank valued at N25,000 and a hand chain valued at N25,000.
According to her, the total value of the items is N250,000.
She told the court that during police investigation, the defendant made a confessional statement, while the stolen items were recovered from him.
Nwachukwu added that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 317 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.
Jobbo ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and produce a reliable means of identification.
He adjourned the matter until March 3 for hearing. (NAN)
