The police in Lagos on Friday arraigned a 56-year-old cashier, Essien Emmanuel, who allegedly stole his employer’s N612,000.

The defendant, who resides at Agege, Lagos State, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on a count charge of stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Felicia Okwori, told the court that the cashier committed the stealing from June 2023 to March 2024 at Posh Hotel, GRA, Ikeja.

The prosecutor said that when the hotel’s account was audited, it was discovered that N612,000 was missing and the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of it.

The alleged offence  contravened Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. O. Fagbohun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Fagbohun adjourned the case until April 24 for mention.
