Mr. Sunday Abiodun, Chaiman, Community Development Association (CDA) Oke Oko Isawo, Agric branch, Ikorodu, has urged residents to unite and impact positively the lives of people living around them.
He spoke on Monday in Ikorodu while distributing food and some gifts to more than 100 persons comprising widows, children and youth.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the distribution was to enable the beneficiaries to participate in the end of year celebrations.
NAN also reports that a competition was organized and winners in all categories received cash and certificates.
Abiodun said the gesture was geared toward reducing poverty among people in the community and environs.
“We have tried, in the spirit of Christmas, to ensure that less privileged, widows and children are catered for in our community.
“The event is put together by combined efforts of residents and members of the CDA executives.
“That is the reason we gathered here to celebrate with one another,’’ he said.
According to the chairman, different competitions were also organized to make the day glamorous.
Also speaking, Mr. Anthony Afolayan, General Secretary, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ikorodu West branch, commended the CDA and urged youths to shun use of hard drugs.
Afolayan advised the youth in the community to be law abiding and not engage in anything that could tarnish the image of their families.
“This programme will promote love and peaceful coexistence among residents.
“However, youths should be guided and not engage in crime that can land them in prison, especially during this Yuletide.
“I commend the CDA on its effort in making sure that the vulnerable among them have sense of belonging,’’ he said.(NAN)
