A renowned Islamic scholar, Sheik Dahiru Usman-Bauchi, has urged the government at all levels to prioritise access to free, quality education for all to promote national development.
Usman-Bauchi stated this in a sermon during the Eid-el-Fitr prayer on Wednesday in Bauchi.
According to him, there is a need for governments to prioritise education and ensure that every individual has lifetime access to quality education.
“Prioritizing education requires society, government, and stakeholders to recognize the value and importance of education for an individual and the community for sustainable national development.
“Most importantly, investing in education is an investment in people that will further promote a culture of leaving no one behind.
“Education brings hope and motivation to communities at a time when it is needed the most. Educating the youth reduces social vices and gives them a sense of belonging,” he said.
The cleric admonished Nigerians, irrespective of their religious and ethnic differences, to coexist and live together in peace.
Usman-Bauchi also enjoined Nigerians to pray for the country and its leaders to lead the nation out of the current economic and security challenges.
“We must imbibe love of neighbors and sharing even as we ventilate our faith in the unity of our dear country and the possibility of her taking the rightful place in the community of nations,” he said
“Promotion of peace among various ethnic and religious groups in the country is key to national development”. (NAN)
