Founder of the Holy Trinity Authority Prophetic Church International, Ado-Ekiti, Prophet James Omitade, on Thursday, identified injustice and dishonesty as factors promoting crime in the society.

The cleric made the observation when he visited the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado-Ekiti, where he donated relief materials.

He affirmed that any society where injustice and compromise reigned would definitely witness crises.

He appealed to government to also respect the rights of inmates and provide them necessary facilities that would enhance their lives even as offenders.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) listed items donated to include 50 mattresses, 60 mats, 30 blankets, 40 copies of the Holy Bible, four hair clippers and 192 cakes of bathing soap.

Other items are four cartons of detergents 20 litres of lzal disinfectant, 96 pairs of slippers, 176 toothpaste tubes, and 144 toothbrushes, 96 rolls of tissue paper and packs of beverages.

Omitade urged the inmates not to regard their travails as the end of life, but to build their hope in God who has the power to design and redesign destinies.

He advised the inmates to forsake all that brought them to detention and give their lives to Christ.

The cleric said: “reaching out to others in need doesn’t mean the giver is not in need, but sacrificing to make those who are at edge of the society happy.

“I have come here to show love and care to these people just like Christ asked Christians to do, because they are here does not mean that they are the biggest sinners.

“We don’t need to condemn or abandon them to their fate; this is why I have been able to facilitate these items through my influence and goodwill to support their upkeep.’’

Quoting from Romans 1:18, Omitade noted that a society where injustice reigns will surely witness crises and tasked men of God to emphasise morals, truth and fear of God in their preaching.

Romans 1:18 says: “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of those who by their wickedness suppress the truth.’’

Receiving the items, the Controller, Correctional Centre, Joseph Ojo, thanked Prophet Omitade for extending the hands of fellowship to the centre and called on other men of God to have impacts in the lives of the inmates.

“We sincerely appreciate your kind gesture and I want to use this opportunity to appeal to other men of God and well-to-do citizens to extend the hands of fellowship to the correctional centre,’’ he said.

Ojo noted that government could not do everything alone, hence the appeal to other churches, individuals and well-to-do citizens to augment government’s efforts. (NAN)
