CMCL OPEN: Odoh tipped for honour

Lasisi pledges to defend title

Fresh from his victory in Warri, where he won the Olu of Warri Cup in Ogunnu last weekend, Minna based golf professional,

Martin Odoh, seems set to add to his trophy haul this week as he steps out for the 15th in the series of the CMCL Open Golf Championship in Abuja.

Odoh, who is still seen as one of Nigeria’s best professional golfer ever will, however, have the tournament’s defending champion, Lateef Lasisi, to contend with.

Lasisi, who spoke in a chat from his Abeokuta base said he is poised to defend his third CMCL Open title.

According to him, he is the man to beat at Abuja, explaining that “having played at Abuja regularly over the past ten years, I have good knowledge of the course. That knowledge manifests that I am the tournament’s defending champion, and it will propel me to excel at Abuja later this week”.

While all eyes seem set on the duo of Lasisi and rave of the moment, Odoh, the likes of Gboyega Oyebamji, Edet Umoh and Bashiru Bakare are other golfers no one should take for granted in the competition.

That perhaps underlines the fact that the 15th edition of the CMCL would be a keenly contested event.

The tournament has been scheduled to tee off at the Ibrahim Babangida International Golf and Country from May 28 (today) – June 2, 2013.

While the professionals who would play over 72-holes round up their game on Friday, May 31, the amateurs, drawn from across the country would round theirs on Sunday, June 2nd.

Speaking ahead of the tee off of the event, the Chief Executive Officer of CMCL Golf Tours Limited, Frank Igbene, said all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free tournament.
