A coalition of 33 Muslim Groups and Associations has advocated the strengthening of the power of the Sokoto Sultanate and immunity for the occupant from being dethroned
The National President, Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Balogun, made the call on behalf of the coalition at a news conference, on Thursday in Abuja.
Balogun also emphasised the need for Gov. Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto to build on legacies of past administrations in preserving, protecting and empowering the Sultanate.
“It is imperative for the Federal Government. and Sokoto State Government to protect the Sultanate from control by political powers..
” The Sultan of Sokoto should be granted immunity from dethronement and his influence should be expanded.
” By so doing , history will be lenient to Gov. Aliyu and his name will be written in gold.
“Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the eminent and illustrious son of Sokoto, who is the Sultan, is a symbol of global peace and unity.
“He is not only a pride to the Nigerian Muslim community but also to the global Muslim family,” he said.
Balogu also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to prevail on the Sokoto State Government to halt a purported plans to diminish the power and influence of the Sultanate.(NAN
