Commission to extend clean cookstoves sensitisation to 6 geopolitical zones

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) says it will extend its sensitization on clean cookstoves to six geopolitical zones of the country.

Its Director-General, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, said this on Thursday at the closing ceremony of a two-day gender sensitization training organised for women by the Commission ECN in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training focused on the adoption of clean cooking solutions in the country.

Abdullahi said the commission had committed to reducing carbon emissions and solving energy problems in all ramifications.

“We have just used the Kurudu axis at the pilot stage, and we aim to go around the entire six geopolitical zones with the same sensitization.

“It is a commitment that the Energy Commission has made already that we will try to reduce carbon emissions and also try to solve problems of energy in all ramifications.

“My hope is that we will go back home with a new mindset and that we have solved at least the problem that we have with domestic cooking appliances.

“I want to say that the sensitization does not end here. This is just the beginning. And that is also just a pilot stage.”

He urged the women not to hesitate to ask questions and give feedback so that there would be improvement as technology evolved every day.

“We will be hoping to get feedback from you so that we can hopefully improve on what we have here today. As you are all aware, technology evolves.

“So, we hope to improve the technology that we have actually adopted to get this cookstove improved,” he said.

In her remarks, Mrs. Ikeme Chinwe, Deputy Director, Department of Energy Training and Manpower Development, urged women to take knowledge home and share it by sensitising others.
