A community youth leader, Joseph Agbaka and two others were on Monday docked in a Life Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged vandalism.
The police charged Agbaka alongside Luper Udoo and Barnabas Akirga with criminal conspiracy and mischief.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecution Counsel , Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Mr Adams Atule, who lives in Idu, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on April 4.
Nwachukwu told the court that the complainant brought a carpenter to roof a building in the community, which he had acquired after demolition was carried out in the said community.
She alleged that Agbaka, who is the community youth leader mobilized his co defendants and one Barnabas Akirga, at large to the site annd destroyed and building materials on the site.
Nwachukwu told the court that the defendants destroyed roofing materials worth N289,000.
The police said that during investigation, the defendants were arrested, while Akirga is still at large.
She said that all efforts made for the defendants to pay for the items they destroyed, failed.
According to her, the offence contravene the provisions of sections 97 and 327 of the Penal Code.
The Magistrate, Hauwa Aboki, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
Aboki, ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must provide reliable means of identification.
She adjourned the case until July 28, for hearing.(NAN)
