The Modibbo Adama University, Yola, is to graduate 12,876 candidates that completed their programmes in the 2017/2018, 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 academic sessions, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Tukur has announced.
Tukur, who disclosed this on Wednesday, at a news conference heralding the combined convocation in Yola, added that a total of 131 candidates would be awarded first class, 2,865 second class upper, 7,462 second class lower, 2,141 third class and 277 pass degrees.
“While in the category of higher degrees, we shall award 183 Postgraduate diplomas, 1,373 Masters and 155 PhDs in various disciplines and their certificates are all ready for collection on the day of convocation”, he said.
Tukur commended President Muhammadu Buhari for granting assent to the bill for the conversion of the institution, from being science technology bias to a conventional university.
He appealed for a similar conversion of the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, into the university’s teaching hospital.
“The teaching hospital will, among other things, serve as the training facility for clinical studies for our medical students as the University will admit its first set of students into the MBBS programme of the Medical College in the next admission cycle 2021/2022 academic year.
Tukur further expressed the need for the Federal Government to find a way of allowing the University system to employ staff when it deemed fit.
According to him, this will confer credibility on the system, especially as some staff were retiring, while others were leaving for greener pastures.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Amb. Tukur Burutai, former Chief of Army Staff, is expected to deliver the convocation lecture scheduled for Oct. 23th. (NAN)
