Darazo (Bauchi), Feb. 9, 2028 (NAN) The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), have commended the Federal Government over the N39.9 billion Bauchi – Gombe Road rehabilitation project.

Mr Shehu Wakil, Vice Chairman of the NSE, said this on Sunday during an inspection tour of the ongoing work in Darazo, Bauchi.

The 35.4 kilometres rehabilitation project was part of the special federal government’s intervention on roads and bridges, including emergency repairs of collapsed culverts and drain systems at Sauke and Konkiyel communities in Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Wakili also lauded the contractor for maintaining high standards, and expressed confidence that the road would stand the test of time.

He urged the federal government to sustain the commitment towards improving transport infrastructure in the country.

Ibrahim Ahmed, COREN Chairman in the state, said the contractor handling the project was adhering to strict engineering standards, emphasising quality, durability, and the engagement of qualified professionals.

He said the project would ease transportation difficulties, encourage commercial activities and control flooding in the adjourning communities.

The Site Manager, Triacta Nigeria Limited, Joseph Samaha, said that 18 kilometres of the road had been completed in line with contract specifications.

He assured that substantial progress would be achieved before the rainy season to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Also, Adamu Bashiru, Federal Controller of Works in Bauchi State, said the road which was constructed in the 1990s, suffered structural failures, including potholes, cracking and erosion.

He said 21.8 kilometres had reached binder course level, while 11.87 kilometres already at the wearing course stage.

Bashiru said rehabilitation and widening works had reduced accident rate, improved traffic flow, and expected to stimulate economic activities in the area. (NAN)
