Mr Akinola Idowu, the Chairman, Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), on Monday flagged off ‘Operation Light Up Orile-Agege’ with the distribution of 4,000 solar street lights to communities.
The flag-off ceremony, held at the council’s secretariat, marked the arrival of a 40-foot container of solar-powered lights, aimed at illuminating every corner of the community to enhance security and socio-economic activities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Idowu said that with the solar street lights, the council was taking bold steps to secure the community and brighten every corner.
“Today marks a new dawn for Orile Agege. This initiative is only the beginning. It is the first batch of a broader infrastructural intervention,” he said.
The chairman said that more projects would follow, as the people of the community deserved sustainable progress and modern development.
Idowu emphasized his administration’s focus on people-oriented governance.
“We will continue to prioritize security, infrastructure, and improved living standards for all residents of Orile-Agege LCDA,” he said.
Idowu also appealed to residents to support environmental initiatives through proper sanitation and prompt payment of LAWMA bills.
According to him, development thrives best in a clean and responsible environment.
A resident, Alh. Kabir Ogunsemi, described the initiative as seamless and timely, especially as Orile-Agege prepared for heightened activities ahead of the upcoming election.
Another resident, Mrs Hannah Bolaji, said that the project would restore confidence fearless moving at night, and improve business opportunities, especially for women traders.
Dignitaries present included Vice Chairman, Mr Wale Fayemi; Secretary, Mr Sunday Ladipo; Chief of Staff, Mr Femi Tijani; media representatives, and residents from across Orile-Agege community. (NAN)
