Wild jubilations greeted the decision of the Appeal Court Petitions’ Tribunal sitting in the Federal High Court at Owerri to uphold the election of the representative of Okigwe North,Rep. Miriam Onuoha of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives.
The judgement put to rest months of legal battles instituted by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rep Obinna Onwubuariri, challenging Onuoha’s victory at the re-run polls for the constituency’s seat in the House of Representatives.
In a unanimous judgment delivered by the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Esther Haruna, the petition was dismissed for “lack of merit” and termed “misleading” and “porous” and considered most of the witnesses and voters’ cards presented in evidence as “crude forgeries”.
