An Ota Magistrates’ Court, Ogun, on Tuesday sentenced two women, Omowunmi Adeyemi, 42, and Toyin Olumide, 30, to nine months in prison, each, for assaulting a woman, Mrs. Monsurat Ogboye.
The magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Fadairo, found the duo guilty of all three counts of conspiracy, assault, and willful damage brought against them by the police.
Fadairo held that the prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Adaraloye, proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
He, however, gave each of the convicts the option to pay a N60,000 fine.
He added that the convicts should restitute N30,000 to the complainant, Ogboye.
The prosecutor had told the court that the convicts committed the offenses on Jan. 15 at about 8 a.m. at the Ajana axis of Ota.
Adaraloye said that the convicts conspired to assault Ogboye, inflicting a permanent injury to her neck.
He told the court that the defendants also unlawfully damaged Ogboye’s clothes and two buckets, all worth N30,000.
The prosecutor said that the offenses contravened Sections 335, 451, and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendants had pleaded not guilty on arraignment. (NAN)
