A Jos Central Area Court on Wednesday sentenced an applicant, Mohammed Usman, to 12 months imprisonment for stabbing and inflicting injuries on one Auwal Abdullahi.
The Judge, Mrs Irene Pati, handed down the sentence after the convict pleaded guilty on offences bordering on trespass and causing grievous hurt, and begged for leniency.
Pati, however, gave the convict an option to pay N40, 000 fine.
The judge also told the convict to pay N17,000 as compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Ijuptil Thawur, told the court that the case was reported at the ‘A’ Division Police Station Jos, on March 1, by one Auwal Abdullahi, in company of his father, Shufiu Abdullahi.
The prosecutor said that the convict, in company of his Sarasuka gang members, who are currently at large, trespassed into the complainant’s house and stabbed him with a knife on his left hand.
Thawur said that during police investigation, the suspect confessed to have committed the crime.
He said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 333 and 223 of the Plateau Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria. a(NAN)
