An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced two teenagers to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour for stealing a Tecno phone worth N70,000.
The convicts, whose addresses were not provided, are Sulaimon Adegbenro and Sulaimon Ahmed, both aged 18.
They were charged with conspiracy and stealing to which they pleaded guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs D. S. Odukoya, held that Adegbenro and Ahmed should be kept at the Kirikiri Custodial Centre for three months with hard labour and without an option of fine.
Odukoya said that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Olusegun Oke, told the court that the teenagers committed the theft on Aug. 22 at Ikeja Along Bus Stop.
Oke said that the complainant, Mrs Aminat Sulaimon was driving home in a heavy traffic, when the defendants picked her Tecno phone worth N70,000 through the car window.
“She quickly parked and shouted for help, and with the help of some military men and passersby, they were apprehended,” he said.
The offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
