Court refuses bail for man charged with stabbing his neighbor

The FCT High Court in Jabi on Wednesday refused bail for a 32- year- old man, Steven Friday, who allegedly stabbed his neighbor.

Justice M.S Idris, further remanded him for fear that anything could happen if he grants him bail.

The police charged Friday with attempted culpable homicide.

The Prosecution Counsel, told the court that Friday who lives in Angwan Tiv, zone 7, Lugbe stabbed his neighbor, Theophilus Edache after an argument.

Abah said the stabbing caused grievous hurt to Edache whose left hand was later amputated.

He said the offence constrained the provisions of sections 229(1) and 248 of the Penal Code law.

Justice M S. Idris said he was not interested in ruling on the bail application for now after his counsel, Noah Abdul moved a motion for bail.

Justice Idris said he was interested in the wellbeing of the victim.

Justice Idris said:” there was a case of culpable homicide where bail was granted to the defendant.

“Upon his  release,  he was trailed and killed in the farm.

” I am not in a hurry to consider the bail application”.

Earlier,  Abah confirmed to the court that the victim, and two other witnesses were in court and ready to proceed with trial.

The defence counsel however pleaded with the court for an adjournment to enable both families meet and discuss how they can assist the victim.

Justice Idris then adjourned, until June 9 for definite hearing. (NAN)
