Court remands 2 over alleged theft of cocoa bean valued N400,000

An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Monday, remanded two men, Sunday Segun and Emmanuel Chukwu in a correctional facility over alleged theft of cocoa beans worth ₦400,000.

Segun and Chukwu, both aged 22, are being charged with conspiracy, unlawful entrance and stealing, to which they pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Abosede Sarumi, who did not admit the defendants to bail due to lack of legal representation, remanded them, pending the consideration of their bail.
She thereafter, adjourned the case until Aug 5, for hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP James Obaletan, told the court that the defendants committed the offences at about 10.20p.m on July 10, at AUD Area, Garage Olode,  Ifetedo, Ife-South, Osun.
Obaletan said that the defendants conspired and unlawfully broke into a shop belonging to the complainant, Taiwo Wasiu, and stole cocoa beans valued N400,000.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Section 383 and 411 of the criminal code, Cap 34, Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.(NAN
