Court remands man, 27, over alleged assault

An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Monday remanded a 27-year-old man, Raji Olawale, over alleged assault.

The Prosecutor, ASP James Obaletan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 17, at about 9 a.m. at Area 4 Village, via Garage Olode in Ifetedo, Ife South Local Government Area of Osun.

Obaletan said that the defendant assaulted one Elugbaju Olatunbosun by hitting his head with motorcycle chain, thus sustaining a cut.

He said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by forcefully demanding for a truck battery from the complainant.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 249(d) and 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant pleaded guilty to the two count-charge of assault and breach of peace.

The Magistrate, Abosede Sarumi, refused to grant bail to the defendant but ordered his remand in Ile-Ife correctional centre, pending the consideration of his bail.

Sarumi adjourned the case till Aug. 5 for hearing. (NAN
