A Life Camp Magistrates’ court in Abuja on Friday, struck out a charge preferred against a 55-year-old man, Salisu Usman, bordering on receiving stolen property.
The Magistrate, Best Ojukwu, struck out the charge and discharged the defendant following application by the prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu.
She had prayed the court to strike out the case, as parties has reached out-of-court settlement and the complainant has decided to withdraw the case.
“Having heard the prosecutor’s application to strike out the case as a result of settlement reached by both parties in the matter, the case is hereby struck out,” she said
Following a voluntary withdrawal by the complainant, the court struck out the First information report (FIR) against the defendant, and warned him to desist from committing any criminal act in the future.
According to the charges, Usman, of Gwari Village Mpape, Abuja was accused of receiving stolen properties, and was consequently detained .
Nwachukwu said that on Nov 13, 2025, the defendant received stolen properties from one Felix Nnamdi who had dishonestly made away with the complainant’s properties worth one million naira.
The prosecutor said that during investigation, the defendant gave a confessional statement admitting the charge.
She said that a single wire worth N23,500 was eventually, recovered.
The offence contravenes the provision of section 317 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
