Kano, July 30, 2025 (NAN) A 30-year-old man, Abdullahi Abubakar, on Wednesday, appeared before a Kano Sharia Court for allegedly stealing an Infinix Hot 11 cellphone, valued N91,000.

The defendant, who resides at Hotoro Quarters in Kano, is standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Mr Zahradeen Abubakar, told the court that the case was reported at the Hotoro police station on July 16, by a complainant, one Mr Ladidi Dauda, who also resides in Hotoro.

He alleged that the defendant stole the phone from the complainant’s shop, under the pretext that he wanted to purchase sachet water.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant was, however, caught and handed over to the police.

The offence contravenes the provisions of section 134 of the Kano State Penal Code Law.

The Judge, Malam Umar Lawal, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000.

He adjourned the case until Aug 14 for mention. (NAN)
