ASABA, Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the management of the State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-uku, to implement its resolution on the demotion of staff member Mrs. Grace Adah, according to Chairman of the House Committee on Legislative Compliance, Mr. Arthur Akpowowo.
Adah had filed a petition with the State Assembly regarding her alleged demotion from the position of Lecturer 1 to Principal Assistant Registrar by the polytechnic’s management.
At a meeting with the institution’s management team in Asaba, Akpowowo, who is also the Deputy Speaker of the House, warned against further flouting of the directive, stating that failure to comply would result in sanctions.
The chairman urged the management team, led by Rector Prof. Emmanuel Achuenu, to provide the committee with a letter confirming compliance with the directive within the stipulated 24-hour period.
“In the letter that you sent to us, it was obvious that you were not ready to implement our resolution. Our duty as a committee is to ensure that we do justice to every case that is reported to the State Assembly,” Akpowowo emphasised.
In response, Achuenu apologised on behalf of the management and pledged to comply with the resolution as directed.
The State Assembly had previously directed the management in January 2023 to reinstate Adah to her former position of Lecturer 1 without delay.
