Abuja, Jan. 11, 2024 (NAN) Prof. Cyprian Edward-Ekpo, the Director-General, Institute of Law Research and Development of the United Nations, Washington DC, USA, has canvased for judicial reform to attract more best brains to the bench.
Edward-Ekpo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday that the third arm of government needs sanity by ensuring that judges are fairly treated.
According to him, the judiciary must be adequately funded to attract best brains to the bench.
“The image of Nigerian judiciary should concern all the citizens of Nigeria whether in diaspora or within Nigeria.
because law stands as the central system of which all rights are asserted, controlled and achieved.
“This is because it affects so many things like the economy, foreign direct investments, visa applications by Nigerian, how the citizens are respected in foreign lands, and development index
“So, Nigerian judiciary needs to re-programme its mechanism to attract best brains to the bench,” don said.
“This will encourage investors, boost development, reduce the incessant denial of travel visa to students and tourists from Nigeria.
“There will be confidence in the court system and investors’ businesses are guaranteed.
“Any country where the citizens and visitors lost hope in the judiciary system always collapse.
“So, my earlier request for judicial reform to the authorities was for the good image of Nigerian judiciary,” he said. (NAN)
