Prof. Seth Akutson , the Director, Entrepreneurship Research and Development Centre (ERDC), Kaduna State University (KASU), has charged youth to go for daily income jobs for a better living standard.
The don made the call during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.
He stated that depending on a monthly salary that comes after 30 days would not give one the chance to live comfortably in the current economic situation of the country.
Akutson said, “Majority of people you see today depend on daily income, that’s why if you lock down today, people can no longer survive.
”Because, daily income is what sustains and not monthly income.
“Anybody without daily income, if nothing is entering your purse or your pocket on a daily basis, you’re barely surviving. And any skill can do that,” he said.
He emphasised the need to get an education with a skill ,which he said, inculcates the culture of excellence in a person through acquiring knowledge and the application of wisdom.
Akutson explained that education goes beyond passing exams and acquiring degrees and certificates but the skills one possess, adding that the world was now concerned with skills not certificates.
The director stated that due to the importance of skills acquisition, KASU created the centre to build the spirit of entrepreneurship among the students.
He added that the centre teaches the students how to create, maintain and extend in the three M’s of money.
”They are: Making money, managing money and multiplying money.”
The don explained that some of the students who graduated from the centre were now creating jobs or working in reputable companies or firms.
“We link up with artisans who are experts in skills like tailors and others to train our students.
“And even if you work, if you close by 5 :o’ clock, you can spend one or two extra hours doing one or two things that can bring you daily income,”he said. (NAN)
