Destructive floods has added to the suffering of impoverished people in Afghanistan, said an official
Almost half of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces, including Kabul and Parwan, have received heavy rains and snowfall since Friday, which have triggered flash floods, leading to losses of life and damage of properties.
Mullah Janan Saeq, spokesman for the country’s national disaster authority, confirmed that 66 people, including women and children, had lost their lives and 36 others sustained injury due to the heavy rains and flooding over the past couple of days.
According to the officials, more than 700 houses had been destroyed and 400 cattle died due to the storms and floods.
The country’s metrological department had forecast more rains over the next few days.
However, 40-million people out of Afghanistan’s population rely largely on agriculture, livestock and gardening, where any natural disaster could prove a catastrophe.(Xinhua/NAN)
