The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in Bauchi has requested for  collaboration with the Police, for the successful conduct of its operations.
Malam Iliyasu Abdullahi, Operations Controller of the DPR, made the request in Bauchi, on Thursday, when he paid a visit to the Commissioner of Police.
He said the collaboration between the department and the Police would further promote enforcement related issues, as well as ensure security for the 528 existing filling stations in the state.
Abdullahi explained that the agency had always adhered to its standard operational procedures in granting licenses for the establishment of filling stations and petroleum gas plants, to ensure strict compliance with extant regulations.
He said the state had not experienced fuel scarcity recently, due to the availability of the products in existing registered  retail outlets and the implementation of operational codes.
The DPR controller added that the department had recently paid a one-day inspection visit to the oil exploration site ongoing in Kolmani village, in Alkaleri local Government Area, saying that the work was making significant progress by the day.
“We have deployed our staffs for constant monitoring of the site” he said.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Sylvester Alabi, appreciated the agency for the visit and assured that the Police, under his watch, will ensure a strong synergy with the department, to enable it discharge its mandate diligently.
He alerted the department on the need to intensify its efforts at checking sharp practices in some petrol stations, stressing that the police would continue to support all of the DPR’s activities.
” I was recently short changed in one of the popular stations here in Bauchi  by under dispensing of fuel in my car” he said.
The commissioner called on the general public to imbibe the culture of community policing by reporting any strange character or happenings to the police for prompt action.
He assured that the police in the state would not relent in discharging its constitutional responsibilities of maintaining law and order, as well as ensure that crimes were reduced to the barest minimum. (NAN)
