A 28-year-old man, Aina Abass, on Thursday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly driving recklessly and damaging a vehicle.
Abass is being tried for driving recklessly, damage to property, driving without a licence and having no valid vehicle licence.
The defendant, a resident of No 23, Katutu Quaters, Ringim Jigawa, State, pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge preferred against him.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, alleged that the defendant committed the offences on Oct. 13, along Funsho Williams Avenue, by Alhaji Masha, National Stadium Junction, Lagos.
Ekhueorohan told the court that the defendant drove his Peugeot 406 salon car, with registration number BDN 389 MN, recklessly on the highway and caused damage to another vehicle.
He alleged that Abass also drove the same car without a driver’s licence and documents to show that the car belonged to him.
“The defendant was arrested and taken to the station, but the value of the damaged Toyota Corolla is yet to be ascertained,” the prosecutor said.
The offences, Ekhueorohan said, contravene Sections 12, 18, 19 (1) and schedule 111 no 1 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, 2012.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Sadiq Bello, granted Abass bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Dec. 16, for mention (NAN)
