The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), felicitating with the Christian faithful as they celebrate Easter, has warned against dangerous driving to stem accidents during the festival.
Mr. Adekunle Ajibade, South-West Zonal Commander of TRACE, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Ota, Ogun.
Ajibade implored motorists celebrating Easter not to get carried away through drunk-driving, as only the living celebrate festivals.
He cautioned against wrongful overtaking, adding that they should adhere strictly to the average speed limit, which would guarantee safety to their various destinations.
Ajibade enjoined motorists to refrain from driving one-way, all for the sake of ‘being in a hurry’ to get to their destinations.
“We have embarked on a massive deployment of TRACE personnel across the state in order to assure the motoring public, especially Christians who would be travelling to celebrate with their loved ones, of their safety,” he said.
Ajibade said that the Corps Commander of TRACE, Cdr. Seni Ogunyemi, had directed area offices to deploy personnel for a 24-hour special patrol to respond to emergency cases, quick response to breakdown vehicles, and control of traffic gridlocks.
He solicited the support of motorists to cooperate with TRACE personnel and other sister agencies to make Easter an accident-free festival.
Ajibade said that any vehicle flouting traffic rules and regulations would be impounded and would not be released until after Easter. (NAN)
